Four more seasonal workers from Tikina Sasa of Macuata and Natewa of Cakaudrove have left our shores for banana farming in Australia under the Seasonal Worker Programme (SWP).
These workers will be employed with MADEC a seasonal worker programme approved labour contractor in Mena Creek, Queensland who will be contracting the four Fijians for duration of six months.
They will be engaged in field work which includes picking banana bunches, de‑leafing, de‑suckering, fixing irrigation and replanting amongst others.
These workers will work for a minimum of 8 to 10 hours per day and will be paid an hourly rate of AUD$22.13.
Therefore each worker is expected to receive a weekly pay of $1,239.28 Australian dollars if worked from Monday to Sunday each week and is also entitled to day‑offs.
