26 people were charged for serious sexual offences last month which includes 4 juveniles and 3 Police officers.
According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, a17-year-old boy and a 12-year-old boy were charged with representative counts of rape of a 5-year-old girl. The 17-year-old boy is the cousin of the victim.
In another incident, a 14-year-old boy was charged with the rape of an 8-year-old girl from his village.
There was one incident where a 17-year-old boy was charged with three counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl. The accused was also charged with one count of robbery.
The DPP’s Office says a 25-year-old Police officer was charged with the rape of a 19-year-old Police officer, while in another incident, a 42-year-old Police officer was charged with two counts of indecent assault of a 34-year-old Police officer.
There was one incident where a 45-year-old police officer was charged with abduction with the intent to have carnal knowledge of a 16-year-old girl, however, this matter was withdrawn due to insufficient evidence.
