It is a sad Diwali for the family of a 36-year-old mother as she has passed away in an accident at Teidamu Hill, Kings Road in Lautoka this morning while her 7-month-old baby has survived, uninjured.
Chief Operations Officer ACP Abdul Khan says the tragic incident occurred at around 9am this morning.
He says the woman was travelling from Ba to Lautoka with her baby and it is alleged she fell asleep resulting in their vehicle veering off the road.
Her baby was discharged with no injuries.
ACP Khan says driver fatigue is believed to be the cause of the unfortunate accident based on initial information gathered from the victim's relatives.
He is urging drivers to ensure they get adequate rest as driver fatigue is a serious safety concern not only for the driver and their passengers but to other road users.
