34 villages in Fiji have been identified by Fiji’s Climate Change Unit to be relocated in the next 5 to 10 years due to the effect of climate change.
This has been confirmed by Director of Political and Treaties Esala Nayasi at the National Climate Change Summit currently underway in Narewa.
Nayasi said these villages are vulnerable to the effect of climate change and they will need to undergo an assessment process before a final decision is taken.
Nayasi added they are still in a process of estimating the total cost of relocation.
We are currently trying to get the names of the 34 villages.
However, two of the villages identified are Narikoso in Kadavu and Vunidogoloa in Vanua Levu.
