The $300 million flagship project under China's Global Development Initiative will see the construction of 22 bridges, benefitting 61 villages and 15 schools.
While engaging with the Chinese Technical team that is undertaking a feasibility study for the anticipated road upgrade project in the north, Rabuka says this project aims at enhancing access to vital services such as hospitals, medical facilities, and educational institutions like USP and FNU in Labasa.
Rabuka says with a total of 80 kilometres to be covered, the upgrades will include the Nabouwalu - Nasolo stretch in Bua, the Nabalebale - Doguru road in Wailevu West Coast, and the Nacavanadi - Korotasere road along the Natewa West Coast.
He says this initiative marks a significant step in Fiji's infrastructure development and will greatly benefit the local community.
The Prime Minister said previously, the Chiefs and leaders from Cakaudrove, politely deferred road development in order to prioritize areas facing greater challenges.
He says it is time to address the neglect and ensure impartial progress.
The Chinese Ambassador to Fiji, Zhou Jian, is on the North tour with the Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, Rabuka is on a 3-day visit to the north, and he will attend the Caudrove Provincial meeting in Taveuni today and tomorrow before returning to Suva on Friday.
