300 young street dwellers in Suva will soon be assisted as part of the initiative that is organised by the Coalition Government, the Fiji Police Force and the Higher Education Commission, to get them educated and earn a living.
This has been highlighted by the Chairman of the Higher Education Commission Steve Chand during a talanoa session at their head office.
Chand says they have identified the selected street dwellers and with assistance from the Police Commissioner, the youths had a talanoa session and were advised on how their life would be in the future if they stay on the streets.
He says through an agreement, the students have been enrolled and will be sponsored by the Higher Education Commission free of charge.
The Chairman says these youths will be provided with short courses on carpentry and automotive engineering that will up-skill or re-scale them and allow them to get a job and help them to change their future.
