Three women today graduated as firefighters.
They were part of the 63 new firefighters that have been recruited by the National Fire Authority.
Permanent Secretary for Defence and National Security, Manasa Lesuma says this is a testament to NFA and Fiji’s progression of Sustainable Developmental Goal 5 ‑ "Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment" in a traditionally male dominated profession.
Lesuma says these new recruits are duty bound to strengthen the organization's capacity and capability and provide an effective fire service to the community.
He also says the role of the firefighters are now complex and involves multiple emergency and rescue operations.
He also thanked the families of the 63 new firefighters for their support to their sons and daughters to successfully complete their 10 weeks of recruitment training.
