Three men have been sentenced to six months imprisonment for the theft of dalo and a hospital boat in Naitasiri.
Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne while sentencing Navitalai Tikomaitavua, Joseva Saweta and Sekaia Rokorasoni says that this kinds of theft from a farm would not only frustrate the farmers but also discourage them from continuing with their trade.
Hence in his view a harsher sentence is warranted to denounce the behavior of the three accused and also to deter others from committing similar offences.
Somaratne says that the people in this country engage in farming expecting to earn income and to use that to their benefits and they also have to expand their money, time and energy in the farms.
He adds that some people instead of working engage in these kinds of criminal activities expecting to have easy money in their hands.
The three accused between the 28th and 30th of September stole $2000 worth of dalo from a farm and a hospital boat in Naitasiri.
