Three people have been rushed to the Sigatoka hospital after a wooden bridge collapsed in Lomawai just after 10am today.

The Lomawai village Turaga Ni Koro Viliame Nabulivou confirmed to Fijivillage that the three were passengers inside the truck, which fell into the river when the Lomawai bridge collapsed.

He said the three were transporting gravel for road upgrading works that are being done in the area.

Fijivillage has been reliably informed that one of the men has sustained multiple injuries while two have received minor injuries.

Nabulivou said following the floods, Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama had inspected the bridge and had said that the bridge needed to be repaired.

Police are yet to comment on the incident.
