3 evacuation centres are open in the Northern Division.
National Disaster Management Office Director, Vasiti Soko says one evacuation centre is open in Dreketi in Macuata, another in Naweni in Cakaudrove, and the third is on Rabi Island.
Soko says this is a precautionary measure as they have received confirmation on heavy rain causing flooding in low lying areas in Vanua Levu.
She says should the need arise, people are to move to their nearest evacuation centre before the situation worsens.
Soko adds as a proactive measure, the Commissioner Northern’s team and the RFMF Engineers have dismantled tents in 8 schools in the Northern Division.
She further says their teams and stakeholders in their vessel distributing relief supplies in Lau are currently berthed in Fulaga until the situation passes.
Soko says we should prepare our families, especially those that are vulnerable as a Tropical Cyclone Alert has been issued for Fiji.
