With the year almost coming to an end, the $290 million proposed casino near the entrance to Denarau is yet to start.
Construction has been delayed for several months now at the new site near the entrance to Denarau.
Only a digger is at the site and nothing further has been done.
We have sent questions and have been calling One Hundred Sands Limited Chairperson Larry Claunch.
However, there has been no response since October.
Attorney General and Tourism Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum had said earlier this month that government is yet to receive the third US 100 thousand dollars penalty from One Hundred Sands Limited.
The third penalty kicked in from the 1st of this month.
Sayed-Khaiyum said that they have already received payments for October and November as well as a response from the developers on showing cause as to why their license should not be cancelled.
However, Sayed-Khaiyum said that they are not satisfied with their answers and has asked the developers for further clarifications to help government make a decision.
The developers have to pay government US$100,000 every month until the casino project is completed.
