28 people charged with 69 counts of sexual offences in July – ODPP

Worrying statistics on sexual offences continue to be released as 28 people were charged with a total of 69 counts of sexual offences in July and of the 27 victims, 19 were under the age of 18.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions says there were 51 counts of rape, 1 count of attempted rape, 4 counts of indecent assault and 13 counts sexual assault.

They say of the 28 accused persons, one was a juvenile and there were two male victims and 25 female victims.

There were 16 incidents where the victims and the accused were related to one another.

A 47-year-old man was charged with the rape and sexual assault of his 18-year-old daughter.

In another incident, a 37-year-old man was charged with the rape and sexual assault of his 16-year-old daughter, however, this matter was discontinued after the victim could not be located.

A 41-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 24-year-old stepdaughter while in another incident, a 33-year-old man was charged with the rape and indecent assault of his 8-year-old stepdaughter.

In another incident, a 49-year-old man was charged with the rape and sexual assault of his 11-year-old stepdaughter.

There was one incident where a 20-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 16-year-old sister, however, this matter was discontinued after the victim admitted to making a false complaint.

A 17-year-old boy was charged with the rape of his 9-year-old cousin while in another incident, an 18-year-old man was charged with the rape and indecent assault of his 17-year-old cousin.

A 37-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 13-year-old cousin while in another incident, a 25-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 14-year-old cousin.

In another incident, a 35-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 12-year-old cousin.

A 35-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 11-year-old sister-in-law while in another incident, a 23-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 15-year-old niece.

There was one incident where a 39-year-old man was charged with four counts of rape, one count of attempted rape and one count of criminal intimidation of his 15-year-old niece.

A 42-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 12-year-old niece, however, this matter was discontinued due to a false complaint.

There was one incident of marital rape where a 33-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 31-year-old wife, however, this matter was discontinued due to a false complaint.

There was one incident where a 27-year-old man was charged with two counts of rape and five counts of sexual assault of an 8-year-old boy and a 9-year-old boy.

A 27-year-old man was charged with the rape of a 60-year-old woman. The accused was also charged with the theft of the victim’s mobile phone.

There was one incident where a 21-year-old, a 22-year-old and a 27-year-old man were charged with four counts of rape of a 16-year-old girl.

The accused persons were also charged with the wrongful confinement and breach of bail conditions.

Six cases were withdrawn after discontinuances were filed due to false complaints and the inability to locate the victims.
