28% of Fiji’s population live under the poverty line while 22,826 families are recipients of the Poverty Benefit Scheme under the Department of Social Welfare.
According to the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation, if a household income is less than $209.24 per week, they are considered to be living below the poverty line.
$23.3 million is allocated for the Poverty Benefit Scheme.
