A 27-year-old man is in custody for his alleged involvement in an aggravated robbery at a secondary school in Lautoka yesterday.
Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations (ACP) Livai Driu says the suspect is alleged to have entered the office of a senior official and stole assorted items.
ACP Driu says the Lautoka Police are searching for his accomplices as investigations continue.
He says they are calling on school management to regularly check on the security of their properties, noting educational institutions would also be likely targets.
He is also urging members of the public to take all necessary security measures in safeguarding their homes and properties as some will be desperate and find ways of earning a quick buck in an effort to meet their financial needs, and this is based on past trends during this period.
He says there are several events and social gatherings taking place, and families are flocking to these events, leaving their homes vacant.
He further says this is when criminal elements like to strike.
The Assistant Commissioner says this is why they are urging vigilance by all members of the public to avoid being victims of theft and robberies.
