Thousands of people living in Navakawau and the nearby villages in the Taveuni, Vuna district will no longer face water-related problems as they now have 26 new water tanks.
This was officially handed over to them by the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama under the Rainwater Harvesting System.
Navakawau villager Mosese Lauti conveyed his sincere gratitude towards the government’s assistance.
He says this will not only greatly help his family but he will also share the water with his neighbors.
Bainimarama says this assistance is part of the government’s initiative and commitment in ensuring that basic needs of all Fijians are met.
He further stated that these water tanks offer an additional water storage of 25,000 litres to complement the existing boreholes and rainwater harvesting sources.
Bainimarama says Government has allocated $1.4 million for this initiative in the 2017/2018 National Budget and of this allocation, the northern division is earmarked to receive over 700 water tanks.
