26 new lawyers who attended the University of the South Pacific were admitted to the bar by the Chief Justice Anthony Gates in the Suva High Court today.
While congratulating the new lawyers in a packed courtroom, Chief Justice Gates reminded the lawyers of the families and friends who stood by them after a number of years of disciplined study.
Chief Justice Gates said some close family members have passed on and wished they could have been here to see the new lawyers take their oaths.
He told the lawyers to remain inquisitive about their profession and its necessary skills and learn more about ethics at the bar.
He said this can be at times a complex topic, but honesty, frankness and courtesy will guide them to rightful conduct.
Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, High Court judges, Magistrates, families and friends were present during the ceremony.
