A 25-year-old man of Buretu Village in Tailevu is believed to have drowned.
Police say the man was swimming with few friends in the river in Buretu and decided to swim across to get a bamboo when he failed to reach the other side.
They say he was later found at least 40 meters from the river bank.
Investigations continue.
