$259 million worth of film projects can be expected in the country in the next 12 months.
Film Fiji CEO, Ramiro Tenorio says they have a strong pipeline of productions in an advanced stage of negotiations to come to Fiji in the next 12 months.
He says they expect $74 million local spend from the $259 million worth of projects.
1000 people are expected to be hired directly for these productions.
Tenorio says these numbers don’t take into account the jobs supported through other companies that service the film industry like hotel employees, retail employees, Fiji Airways employees and many more.
By 2021 Film Fiji set out to try to regain the international film and TV productions lost during the pandemic.
With Fiji opening it's international borders in December last year, interest from LA based film studios and production companies started coming in again.
The CEO says with the backing of the Ministry of Economy and FRCS, they have had strong incentives that have attracted big productions to Fiji and have allowed the cluster of service providers to grow together with developing our local crews, and we now have a 20 percent incentive that attracts productions from all over the world that believe Fiji is a reliable country with pristine locations, capable teams and dedicated infrastructure.
Tenorio says there is a long road ahead but we have prepared our bases and are ready to welcome productions that are now testing the reliable Fijian waters to establish strong, long term bases in our country.
