The constant factor in fatalities and accidents is speeding as there have been 25,960 traffic infringement notices issued for speeding from the 1st of January to the end of June, this year.
This has been highlighted by Director Traffic Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana who says the Southern Division recorded the most bookings with 11,140 drivers issued with traffic infringement notices.
Divuana further says the Western division recorded 10,227 bookings, while the Northern division recorded 2,480 and the Eastern division with 2,113 bookings.
He also says the highest number of road fatalities recorded over the last 10-year period from 2013 to 2023 was 70 in 2017 and 2018.
The Director of Traffic pleads drivers to slow down and think about their families waiting at home and the rights of other road users not to feel threatened by unruly and dangerous driving behavior as the national road death toll currently stands at 56 compared to 21 for the same period last year.
