About 32,000 people now have access to an improved health facility as the new waiting area and refurbished Makoi Health Centre has been commissioned.
Minister for Health, Dr. Atonio Lalabalavu says the facility will improve health care delivery to a population of around 32,000 people which include 1 villages, 23 settlements, 18 schools and the surrounding commercial outlets.
He says through such collaboration with New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Ministry of Health aims to empower all Fijians to achieve optimal health and well-being through the delivery of cost effective, quality and inclusive health services as stipulated in the Ministry’s Strategic Plans.
He say with this upgraded, there should be no excuses and people should take ownership of their health because it is also their wealth.
The $250,000 improvement include the construction of a new waiting area, refurbishment of the whole health centre, improved water, sanitation and hygiene through provision of three 5,000 litre back up water tank, a brand-new water pump and installation of sink for hand washing purposes inside the clinic, provision of new back up generator, fan and light replacement, new sluice and new walkway connecting waiting area to clinic.
