The 24-year-old man who allegedly caused the death of a 25-year-old man outside Suva Harbour Centre on Saturday will front the Suva Magistrates Court today.
Police say it is alleged the suspect stabbed the victim during a dispute in Suva.
The victim was rushed to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital where he was admitted, and later passed away.
Police say the accused has been charged with one count of murder.
When asked about Police operations and patrols as this tragic stabbing occurred in the heart of the City on Saturday, Chief of Operations ACP Livai Driu says Police are deployed throughout the City but cannot be static in one location as they cover a vast area of operation.
ACP Driu says Police have on numerous occasions reiterated the message of solving issues in an amicable manner and not resorting to violence.
He says while they do not want to prejudice the investigation, initial investigations revealed that it is alcohol-related resulting in the heated exchange of words.
ACP Driu says alcohol-related incidents often record a spike during the festive season, and they caution members of the public to take responsibility for their actions by not over-indulging in alcohol as it will lead to injury and unfortunately on some occasions, the loss of life.
