23yr old record broken at Suva Zone 1 meet

Heleina Young of Marcellin Primary School did her school proud after she broke a 23-year old zone record, set way back in 1987 in the Under-10 girls 75 meters, at the Suva Zone 1 meet this afternoon.

Heleina today ran the race in a new time of 11.62 seconds, the old record stood at 11.73 seconds set by Susana Falaola, in 1987, also of Marcellin Primary.

Heleina also set a new record in the 50 meters race with a new time of 7.38 seconds, the old record set by Anaseini Lebarua of Suva Methodist Primary in 1994.

The third record came from Taraivini Seru of Marcellin Primary in the Under-10 girls 100 meters, with a new time of 14.68 seconds, the old record stood at 14.73 seconds.

In the Boys Division, two records were broken, in the Under-10 boys, Pio Ratu of Marist Brothers Primary ran in a new time of 10.67 seconds in the 100 meters with the old time at 11.06, set in 1993 by Leone Matanibuka.

The other record came in the Under-10 Cricket Ball Throw, with a new distance of 47.15 meters from Sanaila Seru of Draiba Fijian School. The old record of 45.85 meters was set by Sairusi Veikoso in 1990.

Looking at the overall medal tally, in first place is Marist Brothers Primary with 17gold, 22 silver and 17 bronze, second is Holy Trinity with 5 gold 1 silver and 4 bronze and third is Suva Primary with 5 gold 1 silver and 1 bronze.

In the Girls division, first is Dudley Intermediate with 11 gold 7 silver and 2 bronze, second is Marcellin Primary with 11 gold 4 silver and 6 bronze and third is Yat Sen Primary with 6 gold 4 silver and 9 bronze.
