23 Fijian students have been awarded with the 2019 Chinese Government Scholarship Award.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Fiji Qian Bo says the scholarship the students received is not only a new start to their academic career but also the Golden Fleece of their future.
Bo says the development of China-Fiji relations and cooperation will bring more scholarship and training opportunities to Fiji and the exchanges and cooperation in education field will get broader in the coming years.
He says China has granted government scholarships to 200 Fijian students since 1980.
Out of the 23 recipients this year, 2 have been admitted in PhD programs, 6 in Master’s program and 15 in Bachelor program covering a wide range of areas such as international affairs, Chinese language and literature, clinic medicine, environment engineering, marine science, medical science, financial management, accounting and various others.
A year 13 student of Yat Sen Secondary School, Karalaini Naisoro who will study aircraft engineering says she will make full use of the precious opportunity to study in China.
Naisoro says she aims to advance the aircraft engineering field in Fiji and give her parents a sense of pride when she comes back after studies.
