Holy Cross leads the Girls Division while QVS remains in first place in the Boys Division

As we start day 2 of competition in the Coca Cola Games, Holy Cross College from Taveuni leads the medal tally in the Girls Division with 2 gold and 2 silver while Queen Victoria School is leading the Boys Division with 3 gold and 1 silver.

Saint Joseph’s Secondary School is in second place in the Girls Division with 2 gold and 1 bronze, Suva Grammar School is in third place with 1 gold and 2 silver while Adi Cakobau School is in fourth place with 1 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze.

Marist Brothers High School is in second place in the Boys Division with 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze, Suva Grammar School is in third place with 1 gold and 2 bronze, RKS is in fourth place with 1 gold and 1 bronze while DAV College Ba, Kamil Muslim, Korovuto College and St Vincent College are tied at fourth place with 1 gold medal each.

33 gold medal events will take place today at the Coca-Cola Games.

18 medals will be from the track events while 15 will come from the field.

The finals for the 3,000 metres will start at about 8.15 this morning, 200 metres heats will start at 8.45am, the 800 metres heats are at 10.46am, the 4x400 metres relay heats will start at 11.40am, the 400 metres finals will be at 3.20am while the 100 metres finals will be at 4pm.

Inoke of MGM clocks 10.80 seconds and favourite to win the Blue Ribbon event

Waisale Inoke of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School will go in as the favourite to win the Senior Boys 100 metres tomorrow after clocking the fastest time of 10.80 seconds in the heats earlier today.

Inoke who won the Suva Zone 1 Senior Boys 100 metres, stood out in today’s heats.

However he will face stiff competition from Josefa Dinono from Marist, Elijah Tokikivunuku from Suva Grammar School, Ratu Alipate Vuiwakaya from Natabua High School, Sailosi Nasausila from Penang Sangam High School and Viliame Rawairua from RKS. They have clocked a time of 11 seconds.

MGM has never won the Senior Boys 100 metres event in the Coca Cola Games.

The 100 metres finals will start at 4pm tomorrow.

A tough tussle is expected in the Senior Girls 100 metres final tomorrow as Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School’s Kesaia Boletanakadavu and Saint Joseph’s Secondary School’s Sereana Seeto both clocked the fastest time of 12 seconds in their heats.

Boletanakadavu won the Suva Zone 1 Senior Girls 100 metres final.

Saint Joseph’s Secondary’s Tokasa Gukirewa who won the Suva Zone 2 100 metres, clocked a time of 12.20 seconds while Kinisalote Navula of ACS also clocked a time of 12.20 seconds.

Tavailagi of RKS sets new record in Sub Junior Boys Long Jump and also qualifies for 100 metres finals

A new record has been set by Aminiasi Tavailagi of Ratu Kadavulevu School in the Sub Junior Boys Long Jump, and he has also qualified for the 100 metres finals tomorrow.

Tavailagi’s jump of 6.03 metres broke the old record of 5.84 metres set by Paula Nasara of Natabua High School in 2015.

He says there were lots of sleepless nights and early morning training sessions to get to today.

Tavailagi says his uncle and grandmother came to support him today and they were overjoyed with his win.

Keleto Loboilagi of Nasikawa Vision College got silver, while Asalusi Raloka of Ba Sanatan College had to settle for bronze.

Yvonne Nalewabau of Adi Cakobau School who won gold after a jump of 11.00 metres in the Senior Girls Triple Jump, says her parents came all the way from Lautoka to watch her at the HFC Bank Stadium today.

Nalewabau says the challenges faced during her preparation for the Coke Games was her academic performance and training.

She adds it was tough as she had to wake up early in the morning to train.

Nalewabau dedicates her win to God, her parents, coaches, teachers, parents and all the students that supported her.

The silver medal went to Holy Cross College student Imakula Leqeua, while Laisani Kuridua of Sigatoka Methodist High School won the bronze.

Unaisi Lea from Holy Cross College who has won gold in the Junior Girls High Jump has thanked her uncle and former Holy Cross College student, Semi Radradra for supporting their squad in this year’s Coca Cola Games.

Lea says she is grateful to the ex-scholars that also bought their track shoes.

She says that she always dreamt of winning gold.

Lea knows this will make her parents happy when she returns to Taveuni.

The silver medal went to Balata High School student Analaisa Vueti, while Adi Cakobau School’s Hannah Matavesi and Camari Ravunakama shared the bronze.

Marist’s Qalovi wins gold after training with concrete bricks at home

Marist Brothers High School’s Iowane Qalovi was all smiles this morning after winning gold in the Senior Boys Shot Put event.

Qalovi who is originally from Tokou says he faced financial issues with his training and couldn’t afford to go to the gym so he improvised with his own setup at home.

Qalovi is no stranger to the winners podium as he also won gold for Marist in Shot Put and Discus in 2019.

He says this win is for his mum and brothers in Australia and Japan.

Nalani May, also of Marist Brothers High School won silver, and Jonathan Cokomata of Ratu Kadavulevu School won bronze.

Josese Tawake of Queen Victoria School has won a gold medal after throwing a distance of 43.47 metres in the Discus Intermediate Boys at the HFC Bank Stadium.

Jone Buadromo also of QVS took the silver medal while Francis Peters of Suva Grammar School settled for the bronze medal throwing a distance of 38.33 metres.

Serupepeli Naidegidegi of DAV College Ba has won the 2022 Coca Cola Games 1,500 metres Sub Junior Boys final.

Serupepeli Naidegidegi of DAV College Ba says his father has been his inspiration as he always encourages him not to look down on himself when competing against big schools in the Coca Cola Games.

Naidegidegi won the 2022 Coca Cola Games 1,500 metres Sub Junior Boys final.

Naidegidegi looked in great form as he takes home the gold medal.

He says he is excited that whatever he has planned for, has come to fruition.

Naidegidegi who is competing in the Games for the first time has also dedicated his gold medal win to his family in Ra.

Marika Lawaniyavi from Reverend Thomas Baker Memorial School in Navosa won the silver while Donasiano Lewenivula of Nadogo Secondary School settled for the bronze medal.

The 1,500 metres finals are currently underway.

Vishant Reddy has won the first gold medal for Korovuto College in Nadi after winning the Intermediate Boys 1,500 metres event at the 2022 Coca Cola Games.

Reddy says his principal had said winning a medal for their school was their only aim.

He says he would love to represent Fiji someday.

Reddy will take part in the 800 metres event tomorrow.

He has dedicated the win to the Nadi district, his parents and his family.

Savenaca Namokoli from Balata Secondary School won silver, and Pratik Goundar of Lautoka Andhra gets the bronze.

Meanwhile Alefina Volavola from Ba Methodist High School has won gold in the Intermediate Girls 1,500 metres event.

Nabala Secondary School athlete Kuini Valebuliti collects the silver medal, and Rusila Tabuyawa from Naitasiri wins bronze.

The 100 metres heats are currently underway while the 400 metres heats will be held at 2.50pm.

Dad proud of son’s achievement in Coca Cola Games

It was a joyful moment for Akilio Seru after seeing his son, Evueli Toia win the first gold medal for St Vincent College in Natovi, in the Senior Boys 1,500 metres final at the Cola-Cola Games this morning.

He says Evueli is an obedient son who has been following his training programs daily and he is happy to see him win gold.

Seru says despite not getting a medal in the 2019 Coca-Cola Games, his son was determined to return this year with a bang.

He adds his son runs 9 to 10km every afternoon and also does morning training in preparation for this competition.

Evueli Toia says even though the QVS and other runners passed him during their 1,500 metres race this morning, he was determined to beat them all when they reached the 100 metres line.

Iowane Viani of Namosi Secondary School won silver, while Lomaivuna High School student, Sailasa Moala won bronze.

Laisiana Kororua from Naitasiri Secondary School has won the first gold medal of the 2022 Coca Cola Games

Laisiana Kororua from Naitasiri Secondary School has won the first gold medal of the 2022 Coca Cola Games after winning the Sub Junior 1,500 metres event at the HFC Bank Stadium.

Kororua says while running, she kept a close distance with the leading athlete because she understands that the athlete will get tired before finishing the race.

She says this is her first time competing in the Coca-Cola Games and she wants to dedicate the win to her family and supporters of Naitasiri Secondary School.

Kororua will also be running in the 3,000 metres tomorrow.

Mere Fotu from Vunisea Secondary School has taken home the silver medal while Elizabeth Kalouniviti of Dreketi has settled for the bronze medal.

The 1,500 metres finals are currently underway.

The 100 metres heats start at 12.10pm while the 400 metres heats will be held at 2.50pm.

23 gold medals are at stake today.

Rosivela Matanimeke of Waidina Secondary School from Naitasiri provided stiff competition to Tagivetaua but had to settle for the silver medal.

Orisi Bukasiga of Xavier College will take home the bronze medal.

Hina Funahashi of Jasper Willams High School has won the gold medal after winning the Senior Girls 1,500 metres event at the HFC Bank Stadium.

Vilimaina Naituku from Naitasiri Secondary School won the silver medal while Adi Ama Masau of Saint Joseph’s Secondary School settled for the bronze medal.

In the Senior Boys 1,500 metres event, Evueli Toia of Saint Vincent’s College secured the gold while Iowane Viani of Namosi Secondary School won the silver medal and Lomaivuna High School Sailasa Moala settled for the bronze.
