The 2020 Fiji Fashion Show will feature the designs of one of the female inmates at the Nasinu Correctional Facility who displayed her artistic designs in the "Christmas Vakaviti" Show that was held at the Tagimoucia Art Gallery last night.
Jessica Hill displayed her designs entailing the story of her life as an inmate.
Hill says her dress designs represent the life of an inmate who is overwhelmed with darkness when she is in prison.
She says with the help of the Fiji Correction Service upskilling program she was able to see a light at the end of the tunnel.
Hill says prison has given her a second chance to a better life.
She further says the opportunity to take part in next year's Fiji Fashion Show is a dream come true and it would not be possible with the support of the Fiji Fashion Show Events Manager, Ellen Whippy-Knight.
Whippy says when she first saw Hill's design she knew that there is talent in her work.
She says Hill will be the first inmate to take part in the 2020 Fiji Fashion Show in the Upcoming Designers category and this will set a platform for her in pursuing a career in fashion.
President Jioji Konrote who opened the art exhibition show says it is a testament that talent can be found anywhere.
Konrote also praised the works of the inmates who defied all odds as this will be their starting platform to leaving a better life once they are released from prison.
Eleven inmates, 5 females and 6 males, displayed their artwork at the Christmas Vakaviti Art Exhibition.
