A 2-year-old girl is receiving medical treatment at the Navua Hospital after allegedly sustaining injuries following a domestic violence incident.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu says a report was received at the Navua Police Station of a child who sustained injuries after she was allegedly assaulted during an argument between her parents.
He says it is alleged that during the dispute, the suspect threw a punch at his wife, which accidentally landed on his 2-year-old daughter, resulting in injuries.
Police say the parents will be brought in soon for questioning.
ACP Driu is pleading with all parents to resolve their issues amicably as the consequences of any violent acts are multiple; impacting the victim, families and society.
He says the incident is unfortunate and is a reminder as to why violence is never a solution to any problem, as there are many innocent victims that are impacted whether physically, emotionally or psychologically.
