Two people have passed away after getting electrocuted in the past two weeks.
Energy Fiji Limited CEO, Hasmukh Patel says a girl who was in Year 10 died after getting electrocuted from a damaged extension cord and the second case happened yesterday where a 5-year-old child from Nakasi came into contact with a metallic pipe that was part of a shed that had been constructed for a function.
Patel says people should make sure that extension cords are in a healthy state before using them.
Patel adds this is especially for extension cords that have been used over a long period of time where the insulation of extension cord peels off and the live wire inside can become live when connected to a power-point.
He says if the public are erecting sheds in the vicinity of power lines, they are to make sure that certain distances that are statutory clearances as in the Electricity Act are met.
Patel says this is to ensure the safety of the public and of those in your area.
