Two men who stole items worth $1,087.20 from Praveens Kava Shop in April this year and later sold them to various people have been given suspended sentences by High Court Judge Justice Aruna Aluthge in the Suva High Court.

Viliame Mudu and Mesake Tamani were each sentenced to 6 months imprisonment and this has been suspended for 2 years.

They pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary and theft.

The two broke into the shop in Valelevu and stole various items such as toothpaste, toothbrush, sanitary pads, razor blades, bandages, packets of powdered milk, corned beef and other assorted items.

It was heard in court that they entered the shop by breaking the back door and breaking the wall of the toilet.

Mudu and Tamani had also admitted to selling and giving away the items to various people.

Only three packets of powdered milk was recovered.

In his sentence, Justice Alugthe said these lenient sentences are imposed in the hope that the two will not come back to court.
