The two major bridges in Suva and Vatuwaqa will remain close till further notice.
Information Ministry Permanent Secretary, Sharon Smith Johns has said that no exact time frame can be given as to when the bridges will reopen but the option of installing bailey bridges for temporary use is being looked into which will take at least 3 months while building the new bridges will take twelve to eighteen months.
Smith Johns said that till any further update people will need to use the alternative routes set out for the affected bridges.
People who usually travel through Fletcher bridge in Vatuwaqa will now have to detour through Grantham Road while those traveling around Suva will need to use Usher street instead of crossing the Stinson bridge in the capital city.
The closure of the bridges are due to the rust of the beams and cables which needs to be changed urgently.
