The $2 disposable bus cards for etransport have run out in the country.
Fijivillage has received confirmation from Vodafone Fiji that due to an unusually higher than forecast demand of $2 disposable cards in December, it is currently out of stock on $2 eticketing disposable cards.
However, Vodafone says they still have eticketing disposable cards available in $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100 denominations for the members of the public.
Vodafone Fiji says they are working closely with their suppliers to have $2 cards delivered as soon as possible and the latest by 25th January.
The company says the disposable cards were meant to cater for emergencies and one‑off travel on the buses and to cater for visitors and tourists coming to Fiji.
It says that all Fijian citizens are still able to register and collect a permanent eTransport card for free which they can top up for as low as $2 and use on a regular basis.
Vodafone Fiji has so far issued close to 1.1 million permanent eTransport cards for a population of 840, 000 people and it says that it is assumed that almost everyone in Fiji should now have access to the permanent eTransport card.
The company also urges commuters to top up and use their permanent cards and not rely solely on disposable cards.
It states that the non‑availability of $2 disposable cards does not entitle commuters to a free travel.
We will have more later this afternoon.
