2 children were believed to have drowned last week.

In the first incident a 1 year old baby was found floating inside a well in Naikaiwaga village, Namara, Tailevu on Friday by his elder brother.

Police say the circumstances surrounding the child's death is under investigation.

In another incident a 13‑year old boy is believed drowned while swimming in the Wainibokasi River on Saturday.

Police say the victim was trying to swim towards the river bank near Savukere when he was allegedly swept away by strong currents.

The drowning toll currently stands at 18 compared to 21 for the same period last year.
