19 villagers from Nabukaluka in Naitasiri have achieved their aim of providing a carrier to be used as a Road Service License vehicle for the children who attend Waidina Secondary School and to provide transportation for women who sell their produce at the Suva Market every weekend. Speaking to fijivillage News, Milika Ralota the 19 youths have been able to earn money by working at the Ngai Tukairangi Trust in New Zealand under the Recognised Seasonal Employer Scheme.
She says they faced the transportation issue for years and it has now ended. Ralota says at first, working on the farm was a challenge for her as farming is mainly male-dominated work and for someone like her, going out to pick kiwis and apples added extra difficulty. The 29-year-old says her aim is also to help her parents educate her two siblings.
She says of the 19 youths from her village, only two of them are female. Her advice to youths is to keep trusting themselves and never give up.
