The man who allegedly brutally stabbed an elderly man in Samabula during an attempted robbery on Christmas Eve last year will be produced in the Suva High Court tomorrow.
This has been confirmed by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
60-year-old Nitya Nand, who was admitted at the CWM Hospital following the violent incident, died on the 8th of January this year.
18-year-old Timoci Matanimeke from Wailekutu, Lami allegedly entered Nand’s home and attempted to carry out a robbery and in the process used a knife to stab him.
It is alleged that a 30-year-old man heard a loud bang in the living room and upon coming out of his bedroom, he saw his father laying unconscious in the living room with two deep cuts on his face.
Matanimeke was produced in the Suva Magistrates Court before Nand’s death and was expected to be produced in the Suva High Court yesterday, however, the matter was not called.
He is currently charged with one count of trespass and two counts of aggravated robbery.
It is understood that charges laid against Matanimeke would be amended following Nand’s death.
