17 groups will receive $1000 each under the Jobs for Nature Rehabilitation (JN-R) Program.
This was highlighted by the Minister for Waterways and Environment Dr Mahendra Reddy during a virtual announcement today.
He says it is anticipated that the program will also deliver Fijians the job creation opportunities needed during this pandemic while producing great ecosystem restoration outcomes.
He says the proposals for the 17 recipients were assessed for biodiversity protection through reforestation, mangrove and sea grass restoration works, riverbank and coastal protection and rehabilitation of degraded land through sustainable farming practices.
Dr Reddy says the Ministry has received about 40 proposals and will reach out to the remaining applicants for clarification on their proposal before they give out awards.
The areas awarded includes Labasa, Ba, Rewa, Waidina and Tuva.
