Loabuka says they have also upgraded the Vodafone Arena, and the total cost of the project including the extended courts, is worth $16.7 million.

She also says initially scheduled to open in February this year, there was a shortage of building materials of a suitable standard that delayed completion.

She says in order to continue to provide sporting facilities that are a of a world class standard, the Fiji Sports Council has to ensure a consistent maintenance process and adherence to the usage policies..

Loabuka also says to ensure longevity of the Sports Council’s properties, they have a property management team and they spend about $350,000 per quarter on maintenance.

The renovation project is being carried out by contractor Yan Jian, from the People’s Republic of China.
