159,609 license holders in the country by July this year - LTA

The total number of driver's license holders in the country in July this year is 159,609.

This is according to the Land Transport Authority.

But the total number of licenses is 300,601.

Motor vehicle registrations have been growing significantly in Fiji over the last few years with an average growth of 9% from 2015 to 2016.

Statistics by the LTA reveal that new vehicle registrations for 2016 was 15,177 with an average registration of 1,265 vehicles per month.

Out of the 15,177 new registrations, 67% were second‑hand vehicles, 32% were brand new vehicles and approximately 1% were locally assembled and rebuilt.

The total valid vehicles as at December 2016 was 110,763 of which 72% were private vehicles, followed by 16% Commercial vehicles and 10% Public Service Vehicles.
