Fourteen Fiji FA Member Association southern zone coaches took the first step towards earning their OFC Senior Coaching Certificate this week at the Fiji FA Academy in Vatuwaqa Suva.
Fiji Football Association Coach Educator Yogendra Dutt says leadership is an important quality they wanted to see from the coaches and says they need to be able to lead and show the qualities of a football role model.
He says the course involved theoretical and practical sessions that allowed the coaches to learn and apply their new skills in different coaching situations.
Dutt says he also wanted them to understand different coaching methods that they applied throughout their time on the course.
The coaches will now spend at least a year applying their new skills in their teams before being assessed again.
The three-day course started yesterday and ends tomorrow.
