Tragedy struck Davuilevu in the early hours of the New Year as a 12‑year‑old boy was electrocuted while playing with water.
Police say the student was playing with water with other kids when he accidently tripped on an electric steel pole which was believed to be live.
The incident happened in the compound of one of the staff quarters at Lelean Memorial School.
The student was the child of one of the teachers at the school.
Police say there were attempts to revive the student but it was unsuccessful as he was pronounced dead on arrival at the Nausori Health Centre.
There is no confirmation from Police at this stage whether parental negligence would be a focus of their investigations.
