123 students have so far been referred to the Substance Abuse Advisory Council, a statutory unit under the Ministry of Education for counselling resulting from violent behaviour towards others, drug intake at schools, sex-related offences, mental health and other negative behaviour arising from social media use.
To help address these issues, the Western Student Support Services Hub at Natabua High School was co-launched by the Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro and the Acting Australian Deputy High Commissioner to Fiji, Sophie Temby.
Radrodro says the Support Services Hub will allow students to freely and confidently share their problems without being judged or criticized.
He says the Student Support Services Hub is a partnership pilot project of the Australian Government.
He adds there are plans to have a similar setup in the North, Central and Eastern Divisions.
