Twelve small claims tribunal referees will complete their two days of training today at a Consumer Council workshop.
Speaking at the workshop, High Court judge Irani Ganga Wakishta Arachchi said these referees will better understand the use of consumer protection laws in promoting the development of fair and effective dispute resolution and monetary compensation for losses incurred by consumers in Fiji.
Arachchi believes that this training will better equip the referees to effectively deal with day to day consumer issues they preside.
She added that this is one of the quickest compensations available in Fiji through which many consumers benefit every year.
Small Claims Tribunal monetary claims are specified to a maximum of $5,000.
