116-year-old Japanese woman confirmed to be the oldest person alive

116-year-old Japanese woman Kane Tanaka holds a Guinness World Records certificate naming her as the world's oldest person

A Japanese woman has been confirmed to be the oldest person alive after living to the grand old age of 116 years.

Kane Tanaka was born on January 2nd, 1903 – the same year the Wright brothers became the first people to achieve powered flight.

She was honoured with an official Guinness World Records certificate at the nursing home where she lived in Fukuoka, Japan.
