It was a proud moment for teachers, students, old scholars and the villagers of Cicia Island in Lau as for the first time ever, Cicia High School achieved a 100 percent pass in the Fiji School Leaving Certificate Examination.
Speaking to Fijivillage, school Principal Isikeli Karikaritu said months of commitment, hard work and sacrifice has finally paid off.
Karikaritu said although the school does not have access to proper supply of electricity and internet, he keeps on reminding the students to study hard and become better people in life.
Karikaritu added that the school committee based in Suva bought a small generator and a few kerosene lanterns to cater for the students’ needs while studying at night.
He said the school has four laptops which had to be charged at night in the village and used in the school during the day for computer classes.
Karikaritu also thanked the teachers for their perseverance throughout last year as some of them were accommodated in the village.
Twenty students of Cicia High School sat for their Fiji School Leaving Certificate Examination and their highest mark was 309.
Queen Victoria School is the only other school that recorded a 100 percent pass rate in the 2014 FSLC.
