10 percent of Lauans remain in the village, while 90 percent have migrated to the mainland or another country.
This was highlighted by the CEO of the i-Taukei Affairs Board Josefa Toganivalu during the Lau Provincial Council Meeting today.
Toganivalu says majority of the people live in formal and informal settlements.
He says the result was identified after the village profiling.
A representative from the Lau Provincial Council says the government needs to uplift the development in the Lau area, and only then people will go back to their village and carry out the work of the Vanua.
Meanwhile, the Roko Tui Lau Joji Kalounivalu is concerned about the number of vacant chiefly titles in the Lau Province.
He says from the 316 chiefly titles in Lau, only 104 are occupied.
