With the appeals and objections for candidates now closed, the Electoral Commission Chairman Mukesh Nand has highlighted that the Fijian Elections Office has received 10 appeals and 2 objections.
Nand says their decision will be relayed in due course.
Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem says after the decision of the Electoral Commission is reached, the next step in the election is the conduct of the ball draw to assign numbers to the candidates in the general elections.
He says if the Electoral Commission gives them the decision by 4 o’clock on a day, they will do the ball draw on the same evening, and if the Commission gives them the decision in the evening, then the ball draw could start as early as 8am the next day.
Saneem says the idea is that as soon as the Electoral Commission has duly discharged its function, the FEO will immediately assign numbers to candidates so that the campaign proper for the general elections can commence.
The Supervisor says once the decision of the Electoral Commission is reached they will also give advice about the public printing of ballot papers.
