Police say they have several cases with them that are before the courts in regards to romance scams where the victims have given upto at least $500,000 in one case.

Investigator Major Fraud at CID, Inspector Reshmi Dass highlighted this during the national Scam Awareness Week at the Grand Pacific Hotel.

She says that they have been receiving complaints about romance scams where victims are retired ladies who share nude pictures with the person they are communicating with.

Dass says to get money out of these ladies, the scammers tell them they are going to expose them on social media and defame their character.

She says they have cases with them before the court of a young guy doing the scams while pretending to be overseas on a WhatsApp number.

She says romance scams are just one of the many scams that the Police Force is currently investigating.
