Water supply to progressively normalise from this morning - WAF

Thousands of people residing in Princes Road, Tamavua and Sakoca including Upper Ragg Avenue, Khalsa, Tacirua Heights, Samabula and other parts of Suva who have been without water for the past 7 days can expect better water supply from this morning.

This has been confirmed by the Water Authority of Fiji which says that reservoir filling was undertaken last night since the weather is starting to clear up.

WAF says the ongoing wet weather is causing frequent disruptions to the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant inflow as over the last 5 to 6 days, the Savura Raw Water Intake has been blocked multiple times.

They say wet weather is also causing the turbidity levels in Waimanu River to be extremely high, affecting treatment capacity and production at Tamavua.

WAF says supply was being normalized on Sunday however, early Monday morning at around 1am, the Savura Intake was blocked again, causing a drop in inflow that affected reservoir levels and restoration.

They say their treatment plant and operations team have been working on a 24-hour schedule since Sunday night to get this issue resolved.

The authority says the water quality extracted from sources such as the Waimanu River is not controlled by WAF, and the volume of rain received within the Waimanu catchment is what decides the final quality that is extracted.
