Former President Donald Trump has returned to the US presidency role after winning 292 votes, ahead of Kamala Harris, who had 224 votes.
Trump secured a second term after a tumultuous journey marked by criminal convictions, assassination attempts, and accusations of authoritarianism.
Despite the controversy, Trump tapped into voter frustrations over the economy and immigration to defeat Vice President Harris and mount a historic political comeback.
His win signals deepening divisions, as his promises to overhaul the government, tighten border security and boost American manufacturing resonated with millions who feel the American dream is slipping away.
Trump's victory saw him reclaim the White House with a sweeping Electoral College win, flip key states and secure a Senate majority for Republicans.
He now serves as the 47th president, four years after reluctantly leaving office as the 45th, and becomes the first politician since Grover Cleveland in the late 1800s to lose re-election to the White House and later mount a successful run.
