Fijians living along the Suva Nausori corridor are urged to store water for at least 2 to 3 days as the Water Authority of Fiji will be carrying out critical planned works on the Waila Water Treatment Plant between 5pm to 8pm this Friday, which will result in a temporary shutdown of the treatment plant.
WAF says the planned works will involve the disconnection and replacement of the existing 2 x 1.5MVa transformers with 2 x 2MVa temporary transformers as phase 1 of overall planned works to permanently replace the transformers.
They say these works are critical as the existing transformers are over 30 years old and now it has past their design life, increasing the likelihood of failure, which would cause a widespread shutdown should they continue to be operated.
It says the overall planned works will be carried out in 2 phases over a 30-day period, where Phase 1 will start next Friday while Phase 2 will commences on 9th March.
WAF adds that the first phase consists of the connection of 2 x 2MVa Temporary Transformers, while the second phase will include the connection and commissioning of the new permanent transformers.
They say as such, customers in the Greater Suva-Nausori area may experience disruptions to their water supply ranging from low pressure to no supply during this time.
Water carting trucks are on standby and can be requested in case of an emergency by calling 5777.
