Struggles of early morning training pays off for Raikatalau

The struggles of waking up early in the morning to train have finally paid off for Ratu Kadabulevu School long-distance runner Jale Raikatalau after winning a gold medal in the 1500 metres event at the Coca-Cola Tailevu Zone today.

The Year 10 student says the encouragement from his fellow teammates as well during training sessions motivated him to keep pushing when he felt like giving up.

The 15-year-old student who is from Sawakasa, Tailevu told fijivillage News that he is aiming to set a new time in the 1500 metres at the Coca-Cola Games this year and he is working hard towards that.

Raikatalau ran a time of 4 minutes 38 seconds during the 1500 metres event and aims to win the best Junior athlete this year at the zone.

So far, RKS and Tailevu North College are currently leading the boys’ and girls’ divisions respectively of the Tailevu Zone Athletics meet.

In the boys’ division, RKS is currently leading with 5 gold, 6 silver and 2 bronze, Queen Victoria School is second with 5 gold, 2 silver and 6 bronze while Tailevu North is third with 1 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze.

In the girls’ division, Tailevu North leads with 5 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze, Dawasmu Secondary School is second with 3 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze while Naiyala High School is third with 2 gold and 2 silver.
