It was a significant moment for Ratu Peni Tikomailepanoni of Raviravi Settlement in Bua, Joji Sokowasa of Nadavaci Village in Cakaudrove, and Apisalome Rabitu of Nalele Settlement in Taveuni, as they received boats and engines from the Assistant Minister for Rural and Maritime Development, Jovesa Vocea.
The Ministry says each recipient contributed one-third of the cost under the Seafaring Entrepreneurial Assistance Programme and their contribution was $20,767.38, while the government contributed to the completion, bringing the total assistance to $57,364.02.
While handing over the boats, engines, and associated equipment, Vocea reaffirmed the Coalition Government's commitment to uplifting the living standards of individuals in the rural and maritime communities.
Vocea says by focusing on fostering entrepreneurship in rural and coastal areas, the program has become a vital lifeline, empowering individuals and families to realise their full potential in the seafaring and fisheries sector.
He says these initiatives address pressing issues such as poverty and rural-to-urban migration.
